Question
I just got a potting bench as a thoughtful gift. It has a sheet metal work surface but the rest is raw pine- legs,drawer, lattice back, shelves, frame and supports- and not a high grade either. How do I weatherproof this so that it can be used in the garden as a potting bench?
Hi Mishel, could it be Cedar? It seems odd that it would be just Pine if it was something like a potting bench. You can tell by the smell most likely. I would suggest a penetrating finish, something like a Deck product, either a clear or a colored penetrating stain. Cabot, Flood, Thompsons, all make good products, if you're going to leave it out exposed, you may have to recoat it every year. Hope that helps- regards-Greg
