Question
Greg, in response to the questions in your answer to me of 3/28/09 the haze on my rosewood dining table is more the lack of the original shine then a whitish look.  In other words, the glowing patina is gone.  I've used lemon oil on it several times and Pledge but usually only dust it.  Is there anyway to get back the glow?  Thanks for helping.  Clare

Answer
Hi Clare, it probably has an oil finish on it, but it could also be lacquer. If it's an Oil finish, you could clean the finish, and then reapply a few coats of a Tung oil or Danish oil finish. Please throw out the Pledge....don't use it on your furniture as it has silicones in it, and while they give an immediate shine, they contaminate the piece of furniture for future finish restoration. If you must use a spray, buy an oil based polish like Guardsman, Old English, Weimans, etc, that clearly state NO Silicones...so called "lemon oil" is basically just white mineral oil, and won't really do anything for the piece, either. If it's lacquer, then it may be time to refinish, or possibly restore the existing finish, but you'll need to get a Pro in to evaluate it with you, as this isn't something a novice can do.....
