Question
I need to finish a bathroom cabinet I have made from Walnut vaneered mdf. Do you know of any good waterproof laquers (prefereably water based) or other products that I can use? The finish dosn't have to be shiny, I just want it to look good.

Answer
Hi Piers
I am over in Canada and its impossible for me to tell you brand names in the UK.
But personally I would use nothing but an oil based poly in a bathroom environment.
This will not only look good it will protect the cabinet the best.
A satin sheen will not show finger marks as much as a shiny finish so you are going in the right direction in not wanting shiny.
Just go to your local hardware store or paint shop and ask for a good quality oil poly.

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
