Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Removing scented oil from Ethan Allen Country Colors dining table

Question
Hello. We had a Bed & Bath Words "Scentport" diffuser with lavender chamomile oil leak onto our Ethan Allen Country Colors dining table a couple of days ago and left about a 10" x 10" patch of "goo." The table is the rectangular table w/the iron legs and has the "Wheat" finish.

We soaked up the excess oil from the table top, and tried using a small amount of "Goo Gone" to see if that would get the "sticky goo" off the table top. However, it looks like the oil will remove the finish.

Can you help with any advice on how to remove the scented oil "goo" ourselves? Our next step, of course, would be to call the Ethan Allen folks to have a finish repair man re-finish the table.

Thank you for your help!

Answer
Hi Melissa, unfortunately, the solvents in the scent diffuser will melt the finish, and there's no way for you to repair it yourselves. It will likely have to be completely refinished, as blending a spot repair is next to impossible in your situation....sorry the news isn't better- regards- Greg
