Question
A friend and I have made some oak tables with a lacquer finish.  Can we use a wax after the final sanding?

Answer
Hi Nannette, you can use wax, but keep in mind that it will make it quite shiny, and will then need periodic waxing. Most lacquer finishes are either rubbed out with 0000 steel wool, or buffed out with rubbing compound or oil/pumice.You can also use an oil based polish like Guardsman, Weimans, etc., just make sure they are wax and silicone free.. Typically, the ultimate is for the last coats of lacquer to be "off the gun", meaning no sanding, and sometimes even no rubbing needed. Hope that helps a little- post back if need be.
