Question
I'm building kitchen cabinets. I'm trying to develop a cut list. measuring one cabinet- 2@26"x 12" side height x 2@  12"wide x 18" length top/bottom. would the formula be: 52"x12"=624" 36x12=432" 624+432=1056 then divide by 144
=7.33 square feet of plywood for this one cabinet?

Answer
Michael,

Yes, that would be the proper way to figure out the square footage for your plywood. There are a lot of ways to calculate it, but your method will work fine.

When laying out a cut list, don't forget the kerf, which is the amount of waste with each saw cut. You cannon get four 12" wide rips out of a sheet of plywood, because the blade will waste about 1/8" of wood when cutting. Just something to keep in the back of your mind.

I've seen people scream when they forget about the kerf. :)

Good luck,
