Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/flat black paint on my dresser

Question
I have recently sanded my old wood dresser drawers and painted them with a flat paint and added new hardware.  They look like new although since it is a flat paint they mark up easliy and get dusty easily.  What can I add to the flat paint that will give it a little shine and protection.  Something that will just take one coat.

Sincerely,
Angelica

Answer
Hi Angelica
Nice to hear from you.
As you are finding out, flat black is not a great paint for this particular piece of furniture.
Get a clear sealer and apply one coat over the top of the black.
My choice would be Minwax water based poly in a satin sheen.
It will look lovely.
Great question

Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
