Question
I recently made a oak headboard and I stained it,and finished it in polycrylic in the spray can, what I need to know if you can apply furniture paste wax,I want to get a deeper shine. What would you recommend Barry

Answer
You can always use a paste wax over a fully cured finish, but it won't really give your finish depth.....only shine. The finish film needs to be thick enough to give you a deep shine and the depth. Three coats of finish, over the stain coat, properly finish sanded and rubbed out,(if needed), is the typical amount for a rich, deep finish. Acrylic Urethanes can yield a flatter finish, especially if you used a Satin instead of a semi gloss, and won't refract light the same way as some other finishes, (like lacquer, shellac, etc.)yielding a flatter overall look. An oil based polish (Guardsman, Old English, Weimans, WITHOUT Silicones), are better on Urethanes as a rule.....hope that helps a little- Post back if need be- Greg
