About Eileen Cronk
Expertise
Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience
I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.

Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks - covering crackle paint

Expert: Eileen Cronk - 6/27/2009

Question
I purchased a cabinet from an antique store for my bathroom. It has been painted over with crackle paint which I do not care for.  I have sanded over the cabinet but would like to know how to cover up the crackle. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Deborah

Answer
Hi Deborah
Nice to hear from you.
I always have a problem painting over crackle.
You really have to sand the paint smooth then apply a coat of primer.
Its the only way to get rid of the texture.
If you have a random orbit sander it will make fast work of the sanding.
Great Question
Regards
Eileen
