About Eileen Cronk
Expertise
Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience
I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.

Question
QUESTION: i want to repaint my cupboards the frame is melamine and the doors are i think oak i went to get paint and the gave me corrostop ultra no.635-110 on the can it doesn't say for wood .and it also says that you don't need to use a primer my friend told me to use kilk or bins paint  now i'm so confussed please help

ANSWER: Hi Sharon
Nice to hear from you.
It can be confusing.
First of all, if the product you purchased doesn't say its for wood then don't use it. Take it back.
Kills or bin primers are used in places where there are stains. They prevent the stain from bleeding through your paint.
But there is no harm in using them as a primer for your cupboards.
If you have not purchased the primer already, just get a latex primer. Its far cheaper than the above mentioned.
Hope this helps
Kind Regards
Eileen

QUESTION: what i really want to know is my cupboards are white melamine and the doors were painted with a plastic paint i started to strip the doors
because under neath they are oak but now i;ve changed my mind i just want to put them back as the were so i needed a plastic paint for the doors the sold me this corrostop ulter 635110 which on the can says for metal so phoned the phone no. on the can and the told me the no. on the can is also for wood but for some reason the are not allowed to put it on the lable will his paint give me the same look as the cupboards had before  and would this be o k to put on the melamine frames and also should i use a primer first please help

Answer
Hi again Sharon
As I said in my first post, if the paint can does not say for wood, then do not use it.
Clearly (after your further explaination), the paint you want is called Malamine.
This is perfect to apply to the melamine frames after a light scuffing with sandpaper (no primer needed), and its perfect for the wood doors (if they are bare wood, then use a primer first). If there is currently a finish on some of the doors, just sand and paint.
Sharon please get back to me if you have further questions. I was unable to get to you yesterday as my internet was down (darn storms here).
Regards
Eileen
