Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks - repair wood table fininsh

Expert: Kirk Ryan - 6/18/2009

Question
Dear Kirk
There was scented oil/ liquid potpourri from a warmer spilled on my Wood Dining Table. The stuff eat right threw the finish. it became sticky and gummy when I tried to clean the table. How can I repair this. I've enclosed pictures Thanks for your time.

Answer
I'm afraid the finish has been ruined pretty badly and the table would have to be refinished to make it look right again. Usually this involves a professional sanding down the table carefully and evenly and then re-staining the table. Also they may have to apply a lacquer sealer which isn't easy.
