Question QUESTION: We have a cedar lined closet. Would you know how long the effectiveness of the "cedar" lasts? It was installed in 1992, and there is no longer any cedar smell.
ANSWER: Hi Anita, there are "renewal" oils of Cedar available, but most Cedar closets are not totally impervious to insects...it would have to be almost air tight like a cedar chest, and definitely no carpet.

QUESTION: Thank you so very much for your prompt response. I was previously advised that the cedar should be sanded down to again renew the cedar effectiveness and smell, but since you haven't mentioned that I'm presuming that's not the way to go.
Answer Sanding with an orbital sander will expose fresh Cedar, and might renew some odor for a time, but I'm assuming this is a thin Cedar paneling you have installed, and over 17 years, the fragrant oils may have dried up significantly....as the wood dries out. Also it will create a lot of dust. A refresher oil might be in order, and they're available over the internet like here: http://www.cedarsafeclosets.com/products/
Hope that helps- Greg
