Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Is Linseed Oil safe on veneered wood?

Question
I have an old bed frame that is veneer on top of solid wood (not sure what type
of wood).  I would like to apply a coat of something to treat the wood and give it
a good seal, which has been sitting in a damp basement for several years.  Is
linseed oil safe on veneers? Is tung oil preferable? Or something else altogether?

Answer
Well tung oil is mainly used by professionals who are refinishing. Linseed oil is good, but not the best. It doesn't have a drying agent so it can sometimes make the wood sticky or cause build up. Your best bet is to find an oil/conditioner that is specifically made for the type of wood you have. I'm not sure where you live, but "Scand-oil" out of Vermont is a very good product which works well on all woods.
