AboutEileen Cronk Expertise Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.
Experience I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
Question Could you give me advice on how to fix a group of what I call pressure dents made by a lazyboy leg rest that hit the coffee table? The finish under these dents was not scratched. This is a veneer oak top. Is there a method to raise these dents? Thank you,Gary
Answer Hi Gary
Nice to hear from you.
You have likely heard about using a hot iron and a wet rag to try to steam the dents out but I find this rarely works on hardwoods and it will not work on veneer.
So the answer to your question is no. There is no way to raise the dents.
You can however go to the hardware and get one of those wax filler sticks. They are made for exactly this purpose.
They come in many colors and look like a crayon. They come with directions on how to use them.
Great quiestion.

Eileen
