Question
Hello:

I have  sauders EZ cube furniture in caramel birch. It is in perfectly good condition. I recently moved into a new house and would like to keep this furniture.

I was wondering if I can stain this to a darker color and is it advisable / possible to do so.

Your help on this matter will be appreciated.
Thanks

If we volunteer experts were able to rate our questioners I would have given you 0 for timeliness LOL.
In any event please understand that we volunteers take time out of our busy lives to help others and the ratings mean a lot to us.
We enjoy being rated as long as its done fairly.
And please write any time you need help.

Hi Neha
Nice to hear from you.
In order to stain any wood furniture, all the existing finish must be removed with paint stripper.
Even wood laminate furniture.
So if your furniture is actually birch wood laminate, its possible you could do what you want.
But just make really sure its actually wood veneer. If its a plastic made to look like wood you could ruin it.
It there anyone who could possible look at the pieces and tell you exactly what you have?
Its also very possible to paint such furniture (real wood veneer or plastic veneer).
Just lightly scuff the surface with sandpaper and paint it darker.
Hope this helps
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
