Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Lane cedar chest

Question
I have a cedar chest that has a slightly curved chip (veneer) out of the bottom front of the chest. It is about .75" long and triangular in shape.  Any suggestions on what I could do myself to repair or fix in some way?

Answer
Hi Elle
Nice to hear from you.
It sounds like you do not have the chip to glue back in.
There is nothing wrong with filling the small area with wood filler.
Choose a colored wood filler that matches the chest. Elmers is one I use.
Try to smooth it as well as you can with your finger, then when its really dry, gently sand smooth with 220 paper.
Then a bit of wax or polish should suffice.
Great question

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
