Question
Hi Eileen,

My two year old daughter got a hold of some acetone fingernail polish remover and spilled the entire bottle on my dinning table.  The top is completely ruined and before I throw it out I would like to attempt to fix it.  Ideally I would like to do just the top of the table and not have to worry about the arduous task of redoing my chairs as well...can this be done??

Answer
Hi Laura
Nice to hear from you.
Sorry this has happened and you have no choice but to attempt a fix.
Yes the table top can be refinished without doing the table legs and table skirt or the chairs.
The top will need to be completely stripped of all existing finish.
Then new stain and finally the clear coating.
Laura could you post a picture if you decide to do this.
It would be nice to know exactly what you are dealing with before further advice.
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
