Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Water damage to birch table surface

QuestionHi there,
I have a gorgeous Heywood Wakefield dining table made of birch wood. A couple of days ago, the vase we left on the table had a hair line crack and leaked water all over the surface. It think the water leak must have taken place over a course of a day and a half. Now there are dry, white patches on the table surface, and they feel rougher to the touch than the rest of the table that's undamaaged. Is there any way to repair it? If I need to bring in a pro, can you recommend one in the New York City area?
Thanks very much for your help!
Katherine
AnswerI don't know of anyone in the New York area. But the good news is that it sounds like it is not permanent. Usually if its darker colors it means its permanent water damage. The lighter whites mean that water got in and it dried up and dried out the wood. Usually they can either sand it down and re-spray it or even just use a specific oil to treat it. Good luck!
