Question
I have nice wood cabinets in my kitchen but they are light stained, is there anyway to stain them darker without sanding all the finish off before? there is alot of them. Also how does Gel Stains work and do they work ok?
Hi Cindy, unfortunately, you cannot stain over an existing finish like what's on your cabinets, and sanding a finish is not the proper way to remove it. Chemical stripping is the only way to completely remove a finish, to prep it for refinishing, and kitchen cabinet finishes are usually catalyzed finishes that are quite hard to remove. Gel stains are great, but like most stains, need to be used on clean, bare wood.Wish I had a better answer- regards- Greg
