Question
I am building a new house and I would like to have white kitchen cabinets. I am curious which is the best to use for the white cabinets. Should I go with a cabinet maker that wants to use a lacquer finish or one that has a paint finish? I believe both custom cabinet makers want to use maple, but they both tell me they will last the longest without yellowing and I don't know which is true. I do know the painted cabinet maker says he uses a u/v finish and it is a two-step process. Which should I go with? Both make quality wood cabinets and come in at about $300 dollars apart on the bid so it really comes down to which one has the best finish.

Answer
Hi Mari, a U/V finish does not sound like a paint finish, and any good kitchen cabinet manufacturer wouldn't use paint for a finish, as it's nowhere as durable as a modern precat lacquer or Acrylic Urethane.I think you need to ask more questions about the actual finish that they will be using.Post back and I'll try to help further- regards- Greg
