Question We just finished stripping our oak cabinets down to the bare wood. I want to do minwax Jacobean which is a very dark almost black, my husband wants them white oak. Our kitchen is nothing special and not overly large, any suggestions? Thanks Gail
Answer It has been said that darker cabinets can actually have an effect that makes the kitchen look smaller. I personally like darker cabinets. But I have to agree with designers, after we took down our mahogany stained cabinets and put up natural cherry, suddenly my kitchen seemed bigger! I think that darker cabinets may be a mistake. The most popular thing for resale value is natural or stained cherry. White also works well in some settings, like contemporary styles. It really comes down to what your happy with and what compliments other things in the area. If it were me, if you had dark kitchen floors, I would definitely go with lighter cabinets.
