Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/finishing bare wood

Question
I am stripping a cherry four poster bed and would like to leave it with a "bare wood" finish.  My husband suggested several coats of vegetable oil.  What is the best way to protect the wood but still end up with a "naked" wood finish?

Answer
Hi Mary
Nice to hear from you.
Oh my goodness keep hubby away from the vegetable oil LOL.
But to give him his due, an oil finish is the way I would go too.
But use tung oil not vegetable oil.
I would use Circa 1850 low sheen tung oil.
Its applied easily with a rag.
You can apply as many coats as you desire.
Great question

Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
