Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/paint splatter

Question
Hi,
I was treating a ceiling water stain with Zinzer aerosol stain sealer, a oil based product, and foolishly did not cover a antique table that I believe is finished with varnish. Consequentally I ended up with a dozen or so dots on the table. I have tried the fingernail thing as well as putty knife, wrapped in cloth of cource, but to no avail. Any suggestions???
Thanks very much,
Robby

Answer
Hi Robby
Nice to hear from you.
Sorry this has happened.
If this was water based paint, I know that mineral spirits (varsol in Canada), will remove it.
But I also know varsol will not remove cured oil based paint splatters.
But if this just happened give it a try as it will not harm the table finish.
If that fails, try holding an ice cube on the spatter for a minute then the fingernail thing.
It should pop off ....well I hope it will LOL.
Great Question.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
