Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Old headboard

Question
Hello, I have a very old, beat-up headboard and footboard. It has several pretty big gashes in it and a few scrapes and scratches. I wanted to fix it up, but I know that it's going to take a lot of time and work. I was thinking maybe I was thinking of making it a rustic look, but I don't know how, any tips or other ideas? Thanks, Frank

Answer
Hi Frank
Nice to hear from you.
Yes I have an idea.
Its the easiest and fastest way to achieve an old rustic look.
I have used this technique before and it looks great.
Its called a crackle finish.
Instead of me going into a long drawn out explanation, I want you to look at it for yourself.

Its a great look.
Also look here for other sites that show this finish.

Good Luck with this great project.

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
