Question
Our kitchen cabinets were made by the Wood Metal Industries in Kreamer, PA.  We don't know a lot about them, but would guess that they are between 20 and 40 years old.  They are still in great condition, but they are very dirty.  We don't know what cleaner is best to use on them.  We have tried Liquid Gold, and Murphy's Oil Soap.  What would be best to remove grease, grime, fingerprints, and water spots?

Answer
Hi Jenn, good old mineral spirits and some rags will remove oils, grease, grime, etc...or you can get a commercial product that is glorified mineral spirits with a fragrance from Formby's...available at most ACE hardware stores and online....water spots are another issue, and often it's a sign that the finish is on it's last legs...anywhere in the 20-40 year old range is a very good life for a cabinet finish. If ater cleaning they are still dull and lifeless, you might be able to polish them with a rubbing agent like 3M's One Step Cleaner Wax. They may or may not respond well to that,.. again, depending on the condition of the finish. Be warned that applying any rubbing agent is VERY labor intensive, (like compounding a car's finish)....please post back if need be- regards- Greg
