Question
Is there an easy way a layman - non expert can tell if the quality of upholstered furniture is good or bad.  Just by looking?  Is there a rule of thumb?

Answer
Yes,  if you are not certain about the quality of a new piece of upholstered furniture there is one rule of thumb that may help you determine the quality.    Quality upholstered furniture is heavy,  a cheap, poorly made piece of upholstered furniture is often very light in weight.  Good quality furniture always weighs heavy.

I hope this helps.
