Question
Hi,
I would like to paint my kitchen cabinets in a bright white gloss. Do I need to use an oil based paint? Could you please recommend the specific name of a product and # I could use. I have already identified GLIDDEN COZY LIGHT #50yy 79/208 Order #A0807 for the walls.
Also, if you could please recommend a white paint for the ceiling, as I am obviously waaaaaaay over my head when it comes to choosing paint.
I look forward to your reply.
Thanking you in advance,
Ruth

Answer
Hi Ruth, I am really not a painter, and I have no idea what products are available to you up there in the Great North Woods......here in the States, they have outlawed oil paints, due to massive new Government regulations, based on VOC's (volatile organic compounds), in almost every State. I would steer you towards a good Paint supplier in your area...they will know what to recommend,as this has meant a massive reformulation of products available.I'm talking a GOOD paint store here, NOT the local Home Center. Also keep in mind that to do this right, and achieve a Professional result, is a huge job. It also requires some high quality painting skills. Proper preparation of the existing surface, and a good primer( possibly more than one primer coat as well), is imperative.Cabinet manufacturers do not paint their cabinets, they use high tech colored Urethanes and conversion lacquers, followed by clear coats to achieve their colored finishes, and all sprayed on. Wish I could be more help, if you can find Benjamin Moore products, I would start there. Also remember, you can achieve or change the final gloss level with a compatible clear coat over the final color coats. But typically that would want to be sprayed on.. Please post back if need be- regards- Greg
