Question
I have just applied a coat of gel-stain to new bare wood 6 panel doors.  I was trying to match stain molding that is over 20 years old.  However, the stain is much too light.  Is it possible to add another color directly to the gel stain to get a closer match.  The stain is Minwax Gel stain - cherrywood.  I would like to add a Minwax Early American stain directly to the gel stain and put another coat on the door before finishing.

Hi Beckie, the Gel stain has a polyurethane binder and will likely not take an oil stain well...you can simply apply another coat of a Gel stain, though....usually, it's better to intermix the stain to the proper color, then apply it in successive coats to get the final color depth, with proper drying time in between applications....hope that helps a little- post back if need be- Greg

I should have been clearer...you only want to intermix Gel stain with Gel stain....I hope that was implied...
