Question
I have just gotten a couple pieces of Elm and have planned it...it is beautiful.  You stated in another answer that you had worked with it a lot...can you tell me where I could get some more?...I live in Utah...

Answer
Al,

Unfortunately, when I used to work with Elm, I was living in Ohio, where it is fairly abundant. Here in Las Vegas, not so much. I just did a search with a few of my lumberyards and cannot find it anywhere near here. Sorry. I suggest you search around a bit online.  In just a couple on minutes, I found this site:

http://www.nwwood.com/Lumber/Lumber.html

Of course, finding the wood isn't hard, paying for the shipping is!

On a side note, I've worked with both Red Elm and Gray Elm. I prefer the red, although both are gorgeous. When I was in college, Elm was about $.70 a board foot, which was cheap. That's why I started using it, but I learned to love it's grain and stringiness, so I stuck with it.

Sorry I can't help you more with info about a lumberyard in your area, but Elm is available in the eastern part of the country, so if you're willing to pay for it, you can get it.

Good luck,

Jamie in Vegas
