Question
i was reading your reply to a another readers question about painting a wall unit.  It is a really hard veneer (i think) not a mark on it but i would like to paint it out so it doesnt stick out so much.  There is a paint at the store that is primer and paint in one, do you think that type of paint would work ok without priming?   The walls in the room will be a white sort of egg shell.  Should i use the same finish on the walls as on the unit.     thanks sue

Answer
Hi Susan
Nice to hear from you.
I just happened to have had my first experience with the paint and primer in one.
Used 5 gallons of it actually. I really liked the result.
And yes, I think it will be fine for your unit.
What finish you will apply to the unit will depend on what the unit will hold.
If its books, They will stick to high gloss paint (experience LOL).
I painted two bedrooms and closet interiors and shelves with eggshell, but in truth the shelves should have been semi gloss. I just got lazy LOL.
So I suggest semi gloss for the unit with your eggshell walls. Both in the paint/primer in one and both the same color. That way the unit will not stick out as you suggest.
Great question

Eileen

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
