Question
Hi, I have a clinet who has an old (Indian, I think) cabinet in-laid with Mother of Pearl and she want s to change the color of the wood. I want tot know if there is an easy way to do this w/o destroying the mother of pearl.

Answer
Hi Mary
Nice to hear from you.
The only way you can do this is by covering the inlay before painting.
They make a painting tape especially for this type of job.
Look in your hardware store for green or blue "painters tape".
Remove the tape carefully as soon as the painting is complete and before the paint dries.
This tape will not damage the inlay.
Great question

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
