Question
We are updating our kitchen. We have been remodeling our home over the years and have always stayed with the oak woodwork. However, I would like something different in my kitchen, so it looks like I made a change. I like cherry, would you mix the two, as I have an oak door that would be close to it?  Should you have a better suggestion for the cabinets and possibly the floor, I would be grateful. Thank you

Interesting situation. I would be open to the new cherry stains that are available to you. There are quite a few variations of cherry that you can choose from. Some people go with the darker cherry stain that has more of a dark red coloring in it. Some people still prefer the warmth that the natural cherry has.

I have seen the dark cabinets with the lighter paints and tiles around it. I honestly still like the cherry cabinets with neutral colors around them the best. I think your safe with cherry colors for a while. If times change, you can always update or change the hardware on the cabinets to give a different look.

I think if you do switch to the cherry, than you need to also change out that door.(oak door, I'm guessing you have an oak door, or cabinet near the other cabinets) Maybe just have it painted to match another color scheme that is in the area.

As for the floors, depending on your budget, I have seen some granite and tiles out there that have colors in them that really help to compliment the cherry cabinets. I wouldn't be afraid to have a good mix of different shades of tile. (see picture)

Hope this helps! Good luck to you!
