Question

Bobby's cabinet
Hi Eileen,

I foolishly cleaned a kitchen cabinet with a green scouring pad and now the veneer is scratched. I've attached a photo of the cabinet (the scratches don't show).
How can I repair this?

Thanks for any advice.

Bobby

Answer
Hi Bobby
Nice to hear from you.
What I usually do when this happens is this..
Get a small can of tung oil at the hardware.
Dip a clean rag in it and rub over the scratches. They will disappear.
Wipe back any excess.
These cabinets appear to have a low sheen so get a low sheen oil.
Wax will likely do the same thing but not in the kitchen.
Easy fix.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
