Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/stained maple doors

Question
I just stained some maple doors with a dark stain. These have a detailed routered edge. Half of these went out to the customer and they have 3 coats of clear laquer finish. The other half is in my shop with just  stain. The problem is that the routered edge came out a little lighter than th rest of the doors. How can I darken this up should I finish the remainder and then try to add some stain to the finish and spray just the edge. or is there a better way

Pat

Answer
Hi Pat, after the stain coat has dried, simply apply another coat to the lighter edges....now this will work better with some stains vs. others.....but each successive coat should darken it more. "toning", where color is added to a clear coat, can also be used, but typically you can't just put stain in a finish, unless it's the proper coloring agent. Toners are made with dye stain concentrates, usually...but there are pigmented toners available in aerosols....but you have to be careful to make sure your colors are right...what stain are you using, and what application are these doors for?
