Question

faded wall
I have an indoor cedar wall which I installed in the 80's,it was sealed at the time. I had a hanging mirror on the wall for all those years. Recently I took down the mirror and on the wall was the outline of the mirror on the wall. The area where the mirror was is lighter than the rest of the wall. How can we correct it to look like the rest of the wall. The wall is in great shape.

Hey Joe, this is one of the drawbacks of interior solid wood paneling of Pine, Cedar, and other softwoods. They oxidize and change due to UV light, and it can happen pretty fast. There's no way to stain it or otherwise alter it to make it match, but if you leave it ...it will eventually start to fade into the surrounding area....the problem is, that could take a year or more, and if the room receives a lot of natural light the surrounding Cedar may continue to change as well, never yielding a perfect match.
