Question
I have some ponderosa pine that I have planed...it has a fair amount of pitch to it and I can actually feel it in on the surface...after planing, I was able to sand it to a nice, smooth surface without much sandpaper clogging...the price is right and I can get more of it, and want to make a cedar lined box or two.

What could I use to finish it with that won't be affected with by the pitch?...I can cut this stuff to make a box of clear pine and would like something to finish it with that would look like something other than simple pine....

Hey Al, my concern is that the wood may nor be seasoned enough to build furniture with. Ideally you want it around 8-10% moisture content, and that takes either air drying for 10+ months or kiln drying to the proper moisture content.....if it's actually sticky, then it isn't dry enough for making furniture....or finishing, as that can interfere with proper drying of most finishing materials as well...please post back if need be- regards- Greg
