Question
QUESTION: Hi Greg, some of the door frames in the house have scratches, chipped paint, or small dents. I would like to know if it's possible to hire someone to repair those damages and re-paint them or do I need to replace the entire door frame? Who would be the appropriate person to do this type of job?

ANSWER: Hi Elsa, a competent handyman or a good Painter should be able to handle such a job easily....get a few estimates, you might be surprised how different they are.....and likely most will give free estimates, especially if you can be a little flexible with your time...I find that lunch time is a good time to get someone to "swing" over and take a look...........Regards- and post back if need be- Greg

QUESTION: What type of finish should door trims and doors should have?

Answer
Usually an eggshell, Satin or Semi-gloss paint is good for woodwork and cabinetry. Primer is always a good idea on repaired areas or bad areas, then a good, high quality paint, maybe an Acrylic enamel or similar. I am a big fan of Benjamin Moore paints, especially the Satin Impervo line, (and especially the oil based version) for woodwork and cabinetry, but Behr, Ralph Lauren, Sherwin Williams, and many other Paint Companies, all have excellent products and you DO usually 'get what you pay for', if you get my drift.Buy an enamel, or a paint made for woodwork, trim, and cabinetry. A proper and professional application is key as well...repair, cleaning and prepping the surfaces for the job is 95% of the work...then proper technique with a high quality brush will result in Pro results....and a lasting and durable job.
