Question
QUESTION: I have read that I need to use boiled linseed oil and it will give the wood a reddish hue. What can I use to get more of a brown tone to my wood?

ANSWER: Not sure I understand the question...coloring wood requires a stain usually, and you should not use boiled Linseed oil anymore...we have many better choices and boiled linseed oil will darken and turn opaque over time. Please post back with a little more information- thanks

QUESTION: The sills to the windows that are in the sun are very dry and bleached out. I want to refinish them but I thought I would have to give the wood some treatment before hand. The color is a light oak.

Answer
Typically, if the wood is in good shape, they'll just need a refinish.Stripped, stained, and varnished (polyurethane)...but it depends on what's on there and in what condition. Water (from condensation) can also damage sills and mullions. "feeding" or "nourishing" wood is really a misnomer. Once it is damaged to a certain point, it needs to be repaired or replaced. Please post back if need be- regards- Greg
