Question
I have two chests and a dresser of finished birch. The finish has a golden color that I don't like. How can I change the color without having to remove the current finish which I believe is polyurethane.
Hi Karen, there really is no way to change the finish without removing it. Birch can take on a natural gold/brown color as it ages as well, so that's a large component of the color you're seeing....the natural color of the wood.In order to hope to change it, you'd have to strip to bare wood and stain a different color, then apply a protective finish over the stain. Wish I had a better answer...but that's just the nature of the material. Regards- Greg
