Question
Hi  I have a seasonal cottage with rush seated dining chairs and some of the rush is deteriorating - is there a way to replace the rush with fabric or some other kind of material.  I don't have money to put in to "restoration" but still want to preserve them as best as I can.  thanks for any help

Answer
Hi Susan, there is a synthetic Rush made of paper, and it is a cheaper and easier to install solution, (not too difficult to learn), here's a link to H.H. Perkins site:

There are other woven seat methods too,:

and also I have seen wooden seats made to go over the original rush seating,(and made them) finished, or even upholstered.
Hope that helps and regards to the GREAT state of Maine. (We have a cottage on Pleasant Lake in Casco, and my Dad has a Condo in the 'Old Port' area of Portland)- Greg
