Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Gap between headboard and mattress

Question
Jamie,

My wife and I recently purchased a Cal King bed frame and mattress set. There seems to be a large gap between the head board and the start of the mattress(when the matress is pushed all the way to the footboard). Is this normal? It is big enough for pillows to fall through and my 2 year old to squeeze into. The frame is made by Najarian, it is the Spiga model. Thank you for your help.

Answer
Brandon,

No, I don't think a gap like that is normal. Especially if a youngster could fall through and get stuck. I'd contact them, and ask if they can do something about it.

At the very least, I'd want something put in the gap, so that nothing can fall through. Will a board fill the area, keeping things from falling through?

Best case scenario? They shorten up the side rails, thus eliminating the gap.

I'd be concerned about the safety thing, and would certainly mention that in your contact with them. There are agencies whose main mission is to make things like this safe. So (in a nice way!) - you might want to mention contacting someone, like the Consumer Protection Agency. (That's a guess.)

Good luck, write back if you have more questions.
