Question
Secretary
Secretary
Hi Greg: I have a very old secretary desk that needs new veneer on two of the three drawer fronts. I am not worried about matching the wood as I am going to paint the secretary -- but I am wondering how to do the edging on the drawers... It looks like the veneer is cut a bit smaller than the actual size of the drawer front and then it is maybe filled in with something to create a concave-like edge? If that's the case, what is used to create such an edge? It doesn't have to be a perfect replica because, again, I am painting the secretary - but I think it looks nice and would like to replicate it on the bottom two drawers. Not too sure I'm explaining this correctly - hope the pictures help. Thank you for any help/advice you can give!

Answer
Hi Emmie, that type of edge is cut into the wood with a cutter, (a shaper or Router)...From your picture, those two lower drawers almost do not look like they were the originals...they would have had this detail as well as the top drawer most likely.Do the inside construction and secondary woods match the top drawer? Regards- Greg
