Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Bedpost Repair

Question
I would like to repair bedposts of a 4-poster bed.  The posts originally were screwed into the wood of the headboard/footboard.  The grooves in the wood are 'stripped'.  I would like a solid repair - any ideas?

Answer
Hi Denise
Nice to hear from you.
Without seeing this damage, it sounds like mortise and tenon construction with screws added for additional support.
And your mortise joint has become too big for the tenon to fit tightly. This happens with movement.
Look at this site to see if thats how your bed is constructed.

This will require the help of a skilled woodworker to fix.
Get back to me if this is not your type of construction.
Then I will need a picture is possible.
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
