Question
Hi there, I have a very nice dining room set, But I hate the Black Lacquer. What can I do. Can't really afford to buy a new one. Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Deborah
Nice to hear from you.
Sorry this is late but my darn internet went out last night just as I started your letter.
Personally I would paint the table if you really disliked it, but really think about this.
Once the black lacquer is painted over its history LOL.
Simply lightly sand, prime and paint a color of your choice.
No point in trying to strip the black off as you likely will not find nice wood underneath.
I'd use water based paint in a semi gloss for this...but really think about it.
Good Luck
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
