Question
Hi - I left a wet rag on my coffee table and it seems as though some water got under the seaming of the laminate on top.  Now there is a bubble in the top of my coffee table.  How can I fix this problem?

Answer
Hi Vicki
Nice to hear from you.
The veneer has come loose because of the wet towel.
If you can get a good bit of glue squeezed under the veneer, its possible then to apply a good big weight (like bricks) and get the wood stuck back down.
Care must be taken to get glue under every raised bit of the veneer or you will have a bigger problem LOL.
If this is a good table, I recommend taking it to a shop for the repairs. Veneer is tricky stuff, and if it has expanded at all after it raised, it will not go back into place properly. So before you attempt to glue yourself, gently push the veneer down and see if it fits back properly.
Good Luck
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
