Question
I have an old desk chair that was my fathers. The seat is completely gone. I am taking it down to the frame. It had cloth webing, foam, and vinyl as a seat. What should I put back? Is it easier to find a kit to do this? I am getting into wood working and don't want to take this to someone to have it fixed.

Answer
Hi,  there is no kit to do this.  An upholsterer may sell you the supplies you need.
The seat is upholstered in this order.
Jute webbing.  This has to be stretched on with a webbing stretcher - stapled or tacked in place.
Burlap stapled in place.
1 " foam.  followed by l layer of cotton batting. then   muslin,  stapled in place.  then another layer of cotton.  Finally the decorative fabric.

The seat hight should be 18" from the floor when you are done.

I hope this helps. Pls. don't hesitate to contact me should you have further questions.

It may sound more difficult to do than it actually is.  Work your fabric to the corners to have a smooth surfact.

Good Luck.  Mark Miller
