Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Disappearing stairs

Question
Hi Joseph,

I'm hoping to build a sliding or folding staircase to connect my workshop with its loft.  I could buy a loft ladder, but the pitch is too steep; I would like to be able to walk up and down, so the angle needs to be 45 degrees at most.  I will also want to counterbalance or motorize the resulting contraption.  Are you aware of any plans available for this sort of thing, and any idea where I might source the hardware (running gear etc).  I live in the UK, but have no problem with importing if necessary.

Thanks & kind regards.

Answer
I don't know much about attic stairs, but I do know of a company who offers these with an extreme wide range of options and styles, pitches and materials.  Their websight is http://americanstairways.com  This should be a great place to start.  Hope that helps and thank you.
