I've seen the formica wrapped around the front of countertops, how do you bend the formica?

-----Question-----
Hi Eileen, what's the best way to cut formica?  I'm installing formica on the top of the bar and I will need some of the excess to finish the front and back edges.  Should I just cut it (trim it) with the router?

Thanx

-----Answer-----
Hi Doug
Nice to hear from you.
Actually I have not worked a lot with formica, but funny enough last week I made a formica counter top for my daughter for an odd shaped kitchen cupboard.
I cut the sheet with an extremely good hand saw, and I used a router (after gluing) to trim it.
And funny enough..LOL, The router bit I owned had never been used so it worked perfectly.
So good tools for a good job.
Good Luck and thanks for a great question Doug
Regards
Eileen

Answer
Hi again Doug
Do you mean bending the piece that goes on top of the counter over the front edge?
Thats impossible.
You can certainly bend the product around a flat curved side of any edge, but you cannot have a continous piece over the top and bent over the front edge..is this clear as mud? LOL
Perhaps you are getting confused with pre made counter tops that are like this, but it cannot be duplicated by the handyman as far as I know.
Get back to me.

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
