Question
I have a leather-topped coffee table.  Someone put their hot paper plate down on it and the almost immediately the spot turned white from the heat.  Is there some way I can remove the white spot from the leather?

Answer
Hi Barbara
Nice to hear from you.
My experience is that real leather often reacts like wood when we place hot things on it.
And my feeling with your table is its the accumulation of whats on the leather that has gone white (oils from hands and polish etc)
I have fixed this problem before with a good cleaning of the leather with saddle soap.
Saddle soap is available at most hardware stores.
Its amazing how it cleans and shines leather..and you will be amazed too.
Good Luck and great question
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
