Question
I recently came across a dresser that I am in the process of refinishing.  It is quite unique - though I don't think too old or too valuable.  Are there publications available that I could use to determine where and when it was made?

Also I have a headboard and footboard that may be from the same set.  Part of it is in good condition but some of the upper parts are quite worn.  I would like to avoid refinishing the entire piece.  What is the best way to accomplish this?

Answer
Hi Jim
Nice to hear from you.
If this is an old set there could be publications about the companys furniture, but without a manufacturer label there is no way to tell. We often see the word "circa" on antiques that are for sale. That means "around" which is most always what is said when guessing furniture age.
Jim a good cleaning and a waxing could be enough to make this set look nice. Certainly worth a try and if you are still not satisifed then a strip and refinish may be in order.
Any chance of a picture?
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
